I am 35 and have had 6 back surgeries since 2011. 2 alone this past year in 2017. I'm fake and metal rods from S1-L3. After I unboxed shovel, assembly is very easy, went outside and cleared my steps and the small walkway in front of them to test it out. You FOR SURE DO NOT HAVE TO BEND NEARLY AS MUCH or LEAN with this shovel. I'm 6'1. And as compared to leaning forward and using your lower back muscles and part of mid back, the strain I felt even with the load which was a shovel full was by FAR less than that of a regular shovel. I own the regular snow Joe shovel with the scraper if you pull the handle out of the shovel (which has lasted me 3 years and counting fyi), and this new shovel is for sure the way to go, especially for so many of us with back issues. Take it from someone who has been thru it,and still is. IT WORKS.Read full review

This will help with less back pain for sure, I bought it to see how things would be with a torn rotatorcuff, and no issues using shovel. Have not had surgery and this allows me to work without pain. . We have over four feet of snow and is snowing and have not gotten into snow season, glad I bougt this type of shovel.

Absolutely love the Snow Joe shovel. I have the 18" shovel and it works very well for my needs. I am 5'8" tall and the two handles are positioned very well for me to use. No strain at all and I was able to shovel 4" of new snow from my three car driveway and the sidewalk in front of my house in the same time that my neighbor was able to shovel just their front sidewalk. So, it easy to use and faster than using other snow shovels. I think I was able to maintain a faster rate due to the reduced stress on my body. Not bad, since I am 71 years old and my neighbor is still in their 40's. I do have a suggestion for improvement of the aluminum blade on the shovel. The blade is just pressed onto the plastic shovel without any adhesive holding the aluminum blade in place. I noticed that this was likely a weak spot in the shovel design. So, I carefully removed the aluminum blade, squeezed a bead of silicone sealant into the entire slot in the aluminum blade, and then reinstalled the blade onto the plastic part of the shovel. If you do this step, remember to let the shovel set for about 24 hours before you use it to let the silicone cure.Read full review

I used it for the first time yesterday. It moved the snow efficiently, and the only difficulty I had was the metal edge on the front of the shovel seemed to dig in and stop sometimes. Possibly, my angle of attack was too steep.

This is a really great little shovel! I couldn't wait for our first snow. I was so anxious to use it and my enthusiasm and expectations were more than satisfied!!
