I am using this in combination with a water heater element rated at 1500 Watts. It does the job when using the either "variation" or "full" mode. Heated a 3 gallon stock pot of water to 165F in exactly 30 minutes. The only drawback is the metal base, or back of the unit gets very, very, hot. Hot enough to burn your fingers in a second. I found out the hard way. So I would caution the user as to where to place the unit while it's operating. Definitely not near anything plastic. I don't know if my controller is an anomaly, or if it is normal. Seems such heat would shorten the life of a small electrical device like this. I may place it on a small block of aluminum to act as a heat sink next time I use it.

The product was shipped quickly and arrived in good condition. Unfortunately it doesn't work as advertised. It's pretty much an "on-off" switch and does not variably control anything. This was tested on a fan which made no difference in adjusting speed. The concept seemed great, but just doesn't work as advertised.

Bought to use with my single speed rotary tool. DO NOT USE WITH A VARIABLE SPEED ROTARY TOOL—IT WILL RUIN YOUR ROTARY TOOL. Why? Because the variable speed control on your rotary tool will compete with this speed controller. A variable rotary tool is NOT meant to be used with ANOTHER speed controller. This variable Speed Controller works fine with a single speed rotary tool. The incremental speed increase had no dead or flat spots. Meaning: as I turned the knob to increase the speed the rotary tool's speed increased gradually. I checked the speed of the tool with a tachometer and it was what the rotary tool was rated for. The cord is very sturdy and should last a long time. I just wish they made a foot controller model. Use it with confidence on all your SINGLE SPEED TOOLS it will handle up to 15 Amps-that's allot of amps for any hand or bench tool. I purchased this for 15 dollars with free shipping. This was the lowest price i could find for this item. It is sold under different names all over the internet and as some brick and mortar stores. The knob has a nice feel to it, smooth and a fair mount of resistance. It feels like a decent quality product. I do not like that there is a belt clip on the back. I would prefer some mounting holes. other than that AOK with me.

So due to me being in a rush and not thinking this through I originally purchased for a 8" duct fan. Since the fan doesn't pull much power this product will not vary the speed of the fan. It only turns the fan on and off when it hits the High setting. Think this is because the High setting is this products least resistance (of course). When turned to M or L the resistance is so high the fan doesn't even function. So this is now re-purposed for high power applications...ha ha my fault.
